Early in 1989, Prince attended a London screening of the nearly-completed Warner Bros. Motion Picture “BATMAN” for the purpose of contributing music to the project. The musician immediately began work on four new songs intended specifically for the soundtrack album. But, inside of two weeks, he had compsed nine songs. That body of work became Prince’s new album. In a 2010 Rolling Stone interview, Prince revealed that the project was initially supposed to be a collaboration between himself and Michael Jackson: "It was supposed to be a duet between Michael Jackson and me. He as Batman, me as the Joker. I would have sung funk songs for the villains, while Michael would have sung ballads for the heroes.”
This special edition is an addendum to the 1989 Prince soundtrack with disc one containing four 7” versions and five  12” dance remixes of songs from the film plus an additional four songs as heard in the film but not included on the score or soundtrack. Disc two contains five 12” dance remixes as well as the “Scandalous! Suite” plus several non-album b-sides from the singles.
