A soundtrack for the film MERMAIDS was released around the world on cassette and CD upon the films1990 release. This special edition soundtrack contains an additional ten songs as heard in the film. "The Shoop Shoop Song" was a worldwide hit, becoming Cher's second number one hit in the UK. The song also peaked in the top ten of almost every European country, but failed to receive much attention in North America, peaking at number thirty-three in the U.S. and number twenty-one in Canada. The soundtrack has been out-of-print for almost thirty years and there has been no reissue of any kind.
